So a good friend of mine just introduced me to this blog and I’m actually disgusted.
A few comments. Let me tell you a little something about bindi’s. They are not a symbol representative of being Indian. They are representative of the third eye (a symbol of wisdom) in Hinduism, a RELIGION that ANY RACE can be educated in/a part of. Please fucking explain to me how you are simply generalizing that every single white female in the world who has ever worn a bindi is, as you like to put it, “basic” because she just so happens to not look like the majority of those who typically wear it.
This does NOT mean that she has no idea what it means, this does NOT mean she is being disrespectful to the Indian race, this does NOT mean that she is pretending to be Indian. It means she is choosing to adorn herself in a symbol of wisdom. Sure, in many cases, people wear bindi’s without knowing exactly what they are meant to signify, but nowhere in the description of a bindi does it say that wisdom is a strictly hindu trait, either. Or an Indian one, since you very clearly seem to think that.
Just to be clear. I work at a museum that displays strictly hindu and buddhist art and educate people frequently about hinduism on a regular basis and get this: I am female who is neither White nor Indian but has a strong understanding of other religions and cultures! Can you believe it? I’ve done my readings. I am not making this up or pulling this off of wikipedia. I have learned and been taught all of this information, and I also consider myself to be a decent human being who doesn’t generalize an entire race based on a small part. I was not born in India, I have never been to India, but I have a strong understanding and personal connection with the Hindu beliefs and feel it is unjust to attack people for the color of THEIR skin when YOU ARE CLAIMING THAT THEY ARE DOING THE SAME TO A DIFFERENT RACE.
You are literally grouping an entire group together and saying you “don’t care about them” or that they’re all “basic”. You are combatting racism that isn’t even real racism, but rather a commentary on religion that you seem to repeatedly overlook, with an unbelievable amount of ignorance.
Right now everything you’re saying reads as though you’re saying Asian people aren’t allowed to dye their hair blonde because thats a White trait, or people of other races aren’t allowed to braid their hair because Native American’s did it. It’s ridiculous and disgusting and I think that if you feel so inclined to make people feel like shit about themselves for expressing their fascination in a culture that isn’t theres - which is GENERALLY A VERY GOOD THING THAT SHOWS T-O-L-E-R-A-N-C-E (read: MAJOR FUCKING PROGRESS FROM THESE SO-CALLED “400 YEARS OF COLONIZATION”). You should do a little reading on both Hinduism and the general concept of religion vs. race.
So in all honesty, I would like you to explain, and I would like to understand your thought process. That does NOT mean dismissing my comment and using a snappy remark that makes you look ignorant and disrespectful and pretending like I don’t know what I’m talking about.
Mod Note: the mod has just expired from an overdose of whiteness.
